This product is messy to use at home, true. But use gloves and a hair cap, and you'll be fine. If strawberry blonde to polished copper is your natural color, you will love the shine this gives you. It also covers some white (redheads don't go grey) for about 2 weeks. If you want to add red highlights to dark blonde through medium brown hair, I think you'd be happy with this, too.
